About The Role

  • Management of the day to day running of the Financial Control Department, including line management and development of direct reports.
  • Implementation and review of financial controls in relation to purchasing, supplier payments, calculation of revenues and reporting of costs, to ensure the security of the Company’s assets and accurate reporting of its financial position. Once implemented, each area of financial control should be reviewed for effectiveness and efficiency on an annual basis.
  • Responsibility for the monthly production of the Trial Balance and all reconciliation processes and other procedures that support this, in line with agreed standards and timing.
  • Implementation and on-going management of a robust cash-flow forecasting and monitoring tool to be used in support of monthly cash management reviews and any annual or ad hoc forecasting exercise. This will include the review and optimisation of float levels within branches on an annual basis or more often if business conditions dictate otherwise.
  • Management of the supplier payment system and authorisation routing, including the management of the relationship with the third party system provider. This will be measured by customer satisfaction with actions taken to optimise and invoice routing processes.
  • Review and monitoring of supplier payment terms and bonds through liaison with the procurement function. This will be on a case by case, risk-based approach, with the more material arrangements covered first and measured by the level of savings identified and cash recovered ensuring that commercial departments remain satisfied with continuity and quality of service.
  • Annual liaison with external auditors and management of the day-to-day relationship during the fieldwork and completion phases of the annual audit. This will be measured by feedback from the auditors and by the achievement of tasks (or appropriate expectation and priority management).
  • Management of payroll function
  • Any other duties that may be delegated from time to time.

  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualification finalist
  • Experience of working in a finance role within a commercial environment
  • Good business acumen with up to date knowledge of best practice and relevant financial legislation
  • Experience gained preferably in the Retail or Financial Services sectors.
