About The Role

The position of Tax Manager, reporting to the Group Financial Controller, has responsibility for managing all aspects of tax impacting the group, with a key focus on UK and overseas tax compliance, tax audit support and working on tax planning initiatives with some international exposure.  The role has exposure to senior management and requires a credible and self-assured individual who can liaise well at this level but is also able to work with the wider finance and non-finance community, disseminating the sometimes complex tax issues that arise

The role provides an opportunity to become a well-rounded tax advisor, working closely with their tax advisors to manage further accountabilities including indirect taxes, employment taxes, SAO & international taxes.  A strong corporate tax background would be ideal with a clear desire to develop into other areas of tax.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Understand the taxation practices across the subsidiaries and undertake regular compliance reviews, to ensure the group produces and maintains robust, accurate and compliant accounting records in relation to taxation for SAO sign off purposes.
  • Act as a key contact in the Group function on all aspects of taxation, including investigations, audits and disclosures
  • Manage the Group’s relationship with HMRC along with the Group Financial Controller and our advisors
  • Provide support to subsidiaries to ensure they act within the relevant taxation legislation while minimising tax liabilities and ensuring that the division pays the right taxes at the right time
  • Prepare tax disclosures under FRS102 for UK financial statements and obtain audit signoff
  • Oversee the preparation of UK and overseas corporation tax returns and EU VAT returns, and prepare employment taxes filings (including PSAs and P11Ds), and UK VAT returns.
  • Manage HMRC VAT and PAYE audits and deal with HMRC enquiries
  • Involvement in tax driven projects, e.g., transfer pricing
  • Monitoring law changes, identifying impact and briefing and training businesses as appropriate, and inputting into consequential adaptations to processes etc as required
  • Ad hoc advice and assistance to non-UK businesses as required
  • Ad hoc support on tax compliance and reporting

Relationship Management:

  • Work with and provide guidance to the finance team and other colleagues across the business, maintaining healthy working relationships yet providing the appropriate expertise and challenge to achieve the financial objectives of the business.
  • Establish strong and effective relationships with our tax advisors, HMRC and the statutory auditors and key internal stakeholders
